It has been an eventful 12 months for economic and employment trends — in the past year alone, we’ve covered everything from the state of the Great Resignation and the future of the workplace to quiet quitting and pay transparency. Business leaders have had a historic level of disruption to contend with while ensuring their organizations remain resilient, innovative, and competitive — especially in an exceedingly tight labor market.
As knowledgeable, insightful recruitment partners, the 20/20 Foresight team of executive search and industry experts keeps track of these trends when developing and implementing actionable hiring strategies that withstand fluctuations and build solid teams that lead organizations confidently into the future.
We think it’s important — especially at the end of a momentous year — to celebrate wins both big and small. We’d like to share some of the 2022 achievements our team is most proud of, as well as take a look ahead into the ever-evolving employment outlook for 2023.

As informative as it is to look back, we’re excited for what the year ahead holds for our organization and for yours. Here are the trends that we believe will shape our industry in 2023.
What Does 2023 Hold for Employment and the Future of Work?
Many of the shifts brought about by the pandemic continue to shake out as we collectively reimagine what it means to work in today’s society. Through insightful planning, meaningful collaboration, and strategic investments, business leaders and their teams have demonstrated the willingness and ability to build stronger organizations, uplifting and unleashing their talent along the way.
Here we present the top 5 trends in employment and recruitment for 2023:
Talent leaders carry more clout in the C-suite: As the complexities of talent attraction, retention, and management, along with employee development and engagement initiatives, become more important than ever in our rapidly transforming organizations, look for HR and corporate learning roles to take on increased prominence and morph into a more common path to the corner office.
Talent wars rage on: Staying competitive in a cramped labor market calls for a continuous reassessment of not only your hiring strategy, but what your organization can offer new and existing employees. The current hiring environment has prompted many organizations to embrace alternate ways to test and train talent, including the rise of skills-based hiring, a practice that deepens your talent pool by breaking down barriers to entry. An added benefit? This trend is likely recession-proof because the guiding light is to open new paths to prosperity for underrepresented groups and galvanize a wider group of talent to compete for coveted jobs.
Advancing employee development: Following two years of focusing on how and where we work, CxOs are now shifting gears toward the development and training of employees. In Forbes’ recent CxO Growth Survey, 42% of C-suite leaders say increasing or improving employee training programs is one of their top three talent priorities, followed by ensuring employees can maintain a strong work-life balance (40%), investing in leadership development programs (38%), and accelerating diversity and inclusion initiatives (38%). All of these efforts serve to strengthen an organization’s talent attraction, retention, and management strategies.
Enhancing employee health and wellbeing: Workers who operate in human-centric work models – where they are seen as people, not just resources – are 3.8 times more likely to be high performing, according to a recent survey by Gartner, Inc. With pervasive employee burnout and shifting work-life balance demands, what workers want — flexible work arrangements, intentional collaboration, empathetic leadership, to name a few aspects — is continuing to change. The most successful organizations will be able to authentically listen to and meet these essential new employee requirements.
A partner to help pave the road to success: In these rapidly changing times, business leaders are juggling innumerable priorities all at once. Engaging with a proactive, perceptive recruitment partner extends an organization’s ability to not only source top talent, but to be at the forefront of the future of work.
